We had a chance to sit down with Timmy himself to get some extra insight into what KING Apparel is all about…

LIDS: If you could describe your brand in 1 sentence, what would it be?

KING Apparel: British contemporary street fashion for the style conscious individual.

L: What inspired you to create your brand/this style?

KA: We wanted to create something that simply was not on the market at the time and represented everything about our home city of London. When we started with headwear, New Era dominated the industry and it was all team licensed sports hats. So we approached New Era with the idea of creating more street fashion focused 5950 caps. That was back in 2003 and we were the first non-sports brand to make 5950’s with New Era. Period. 

We created and applied unique design modifications, embroideries and features that were completely untried at the time. Our knowledge, expertise and inspiration developed over the course of several years which allowed us to move into collaborations with Starter on original 80’s snapbacks and then our own line of snapback caps, 5 panel caps, curved peak caps etc, that we feel are unrivalled in terms or quality, design and detail.

L: What sets these hats apart from anything else that is on shelves?

KA: Our meticulous attention to detail and the sourcing of fabrics from the best suppliers in Paris, Istanbul and London, that ensures our headwear has the best treatments and finishes on the market. Also the shape and construction has been developed over years of experience, so you’re getting a hat that we too would be proud to wear.

L: What are your dreams and goals for the brand?

KA: Our main goal as always has been to create a brand that first and foremost stands with integrity amongst its peers. We are a London based brand and that permeates through everything we do, and ultimately we would like to bring that ethos to all of those people across the USA that pay as much care and attention to the caps that they wear, as we do!

L: If you could say one thing to the fans of your hats, what would it be?

KA: Salute to everyone, you are all part of our extended family! Plus, keep checking back, as we have a lot of heat that we’ll be dropping exclusively into LIDS over the coming seasons.
