Yesterday, the students of Hawthorne Elementary got a big surprise. Over 75 employees from Lids Sports Group, along with some team members of the Indianapolis Colts, participated in the 12th Annual Cold Feet Warm Shoes & Hats where the Lids Foundation donated new shoes and knit hats to 470 students. At Hawthorne Elementary, over 80% of its students are on a free/reduced lunch program, so as a way to spread some cheer, The Lids Foundation and The Colts teamed up to gift new and much needed gear, just in time for the holidays.
Colts DE Kendall Langford started off the day thanking all the volunteers, “Let’s put some smiles on kids faces, and make this a great event for them. Thank you everybody that came out and supported. You dominated in every part that you’ve done.”
The Cold Feet, Warm Shoes & Hats program, LIDS and its parent company, Genesco Inc., annually provide disadvantaged children in Indianapolis with new shoes and warm hats while also giving them the same exemplary service that they would receive at any of Lids or Genesco’s retail stores. Each year, the company and the Indianapolis Colts help to host this signature event at a different Indianapolis Public School location in need.
The room was full of smiles and laughter, as well as a few joyful tears. Throughout the day you could hear Lids staff commenting on how lucky they felt to work with such an awesome team of volunteers every year at this event.
Lids took over the school gym to set up a mock store, with a hat wall and a line of shoe fitters, waiting to gift each kid with brand new socks and shoes!
Thanks again for all the volunteers and the Indianapolis Colts for helping out the community. Once again, Cold Feet, Warm Shoes & Hats was a success because of your generosity and time! Happy HoLIDSdays from us here at Lids!
