Max Out Your Style with Nike Air Max & Killer Caps

Journeys (our sister store) recently posted a picture of a their new Nike Air Max shoes on their Facebook page.  My first thought was "I gotta get to Journeys to get a pair," but my next thought immediately got me searching for hats that would compliment these sneakers.  Nothing pulls together a look like coordinating shoes and hats!  Nobody wants to look like they've tried too hard, but this is an effortless way to look

Below are a few that we liked, but we also want to know what you would pair with these sneakers.  Do you match your shoes and hats to your look?  Feel free to upload some pics of your complimentary shoes and hats on our Facebook page or send us a Twitpic on Twitter.  We'll post the links back on the blog for others to see.

Bracketology or Bracket-OH MY-ology?

Do you have your bracket ready? I wondered over the weekend: If i wanted to be assured of winning my men's college basketball tournament bracket office pool by picking every game correctly, how many different combinations are there in the 63-game format?

Having no clue how to calculate such an equation, I whipped out my cell phone and consulted my favorite source for all things trivial and often nonsensical: ChaCha. ChaCha is a mobile search engine that provides answers to questions users ask while on the go via text message. (Simply text your question to 242 242. Normal text charges from your carrier apply.)

I figured the number of combinations was large, but I had no idea how large. ChaCha’s reply: 18,446,744,073,709,551,616.

That’s 18+ quintillion. I had to look that up, too. Thanks Wikipedia

If you took 18 quintillion pennies and laid them out flat like a carpet, they would cover the surface of the earth – 36 times.  Talk about a long shot!

I think I’ll stick to my one bracket and just enjoy the “madness.”

Are you a one bracket guy or something more?  How many brackets will you fill out this year?  Leave us a comment on the blog, Tweet us on Twitter or comment on Facebook.  Thanks for reading!

Bracket Bu$ting

Water_cooler As a nation, count on a spike in water consumption today.  That’s because the day after Selection Sunday you can count on there being more proverbial “water cooler” talk around United States businesses than perhaps any other day of the year. College basketball’s tournament may cost U.S. employers as much as $1.8 billion in unproductive wages during the first week of action, according to an annual survey by Chicago-based placement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc.

This figure is based on the 58.3 million people estimated to participate in office pools during the National Collegiate Athletic Association event known as "March Madness," with each devoting 20 minutes per day to watching the games or focusing on the pools.

In a typical office pool, participants pick the winners of all 63 games, deciding which teams will win in the first five rounds and the championship game, which this year is scheduled for April 5 in Indianapolis (the corporate office home of LIDS).

"March Madness and the subsequent office pools have been going on long enough that employers can no longer claim to be caught off guard by the annual event,” John Challenger, the firm’s CEO, said in a statement. “Some have tried to squash these pools, most simply ignore them and others have found ways to embrace the tournament as a team-building and morale-boosting opportunity.”  The latter has always been LIDS' approach.

A survey last year by Microsoft/MSN found that 45 percent of Americans planned to join at least one college basketball pool. Every 20 minutes spent ignoring work because of the tournament will cost employers $362.2 million, according to Challenger. That figure is based on the $18.70 current average hourly wage for all U.S. workers, provided by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The unscientific survey did not take into account that many employees who participate in office pools devote extra time to finishing their responsibilities.

Last year, Challenger’s study pegged possible employer productivity losses at $1.7 billion, and a year earlier it was $1.2 billion.

Fresh Goods Friday: New MLB 59Fifty

Boston MLB Hata
Everyone needs a non-lame green accessory for St. Patrick's Day!  You certainly don't want to be getting pinched at your St. Patrick's Day party or bar crawl (if you're 21, of course).

We know how important your style is and you shouldn't have to compromise it by wearing a shamrock shirt with a silly saying.  Avoid the pinches and add some green to your outfit without sacrificing your look.  Simply wear the MLB Hata and you'll be set for March 17th!

The MLB Hata, or hat if you're Irish, is a solid kelly green New Era 59Fifty.  The cap features an embroidered orange and white team logo on the front panel over a plaid patterned shamrock.  An orange New Era Flag on the left wear side and matching MLB logoman on the back top off this hat.

Have the luck of the Irish on your side with the MLB Hata!

LIDS Hats - Beach Bag Necessity

In the March issue of Coastal Living, the LIDS Rutgers Scarlet Knights Brushback NCAA Franchise hat (below) was pictured in the magazine's "What's in your beach bag?" feature on Bobbi Brown, makeup artist as well as Founder and CEO of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics. A representative of the magazine contacted the LIDS Public Relations Department to acquire images of the hat upon hearing it made Bobbi's beach tote list. Apparently when this Jersey girl is not adding to her "no-makeup look" line or discussing beauty secrets with TV show hosts, she proudly supports the local team.
