LIDS: Celebs for Caps for Kids

With more than 850 locations throughout North America, it is not uncommon for local celebs andCaps for Kids athletes to be spotted in LIDS. And during these visits many stars have interrupted their shopping to show their support for Caps for Kids, an international 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing celebrity autographed headwear to children battling cancer, by signing one of our lids to donate to the organization. Through the distribution of these hats, Caps for Kids is able to provide a much needed boost in pride and confidence for the patients it serves, which in turn helps them with their fight.

Check out a few of the names from January listed below and stay tuned for February's list to find out which celebs have stopped by LIDS!

Crashed Ice: Hot or Not?

Red Bull Crashed Ice It is common for sports fans during the Olympics to debate their favorite Olympic sport or suggest new competitions that should be introduced.  Clearly the popularity of the XGames indicates the world likes a certain amount of change from time to time.  A LIDS staffer recently stumbled upon a relatively new and obscure winter sport: Crashed Ice.  Below is a kickin' YouTube link, but basically it’s a wild cross between hockey and snowboardcross…and looks waaay "cool"!  Four racers at a time, dressed in hockey equipment, whip down what looks like a large bobsled run, battling to stay on their skates.  They hurdle over jumps and ledges, down steep sections and around four hairpin turns.  Quebec City in Canada – home to some of LIDS’ newest stores – is the best-known North American host city for this annual event which draws rambunctious crowds of more than 50,000.  The 2010 event is scheduled for March 20.  Did someone say, “ROADTRIP!”?

We want to know, “What do you think of Crashed Ice and should it be a new Olympic or XGames sport?”  Tell us what you think of Crashed Ice by leaving a comment for us here, on Twitter or by answering the Lids Daily Facebook Poll.  We'd love to hear from someone who has braved the ice!

New Fashion Hats for Spring and Summer

We're all tired of the cold and snow which is why we've decided to look forward to spring and summer (instead of looking outside at the inclement weather)!  New styles will soon be arriving in stores and online.  These killer fashion hats are the perfect accessory to make your new spring threads stand out!

Below is a SNEAK PEAK at some of the latest styles to be popping up this spring.  Check them out and be sure to stop back by the Lids Blog to see when all these new styles are available.

Linen 6 Panel Driver Olive

Linen 6 Panel Driver (Shown left in Olive)

Nothing says spring like linen!  This lightweight driving cap can turn even the blandest outfit into a well-styled look.  Perfectly preppy but easy to pull off with any outfit.

Trilby 10 black

Trilby 10 (Shown right in Black)

The trilby is by no means a new style; however, we've updated the Trilby 08 to be more in line with changing trends.  The Trilby 10 features a shorter brim and lower crown.  The update makes it very wearable!

Straw grosgrain fedora Natural

PL Straw Fedora w/Grosgrain Band (shown left in Natural)

Straw hats are an excellent compliment to your summer look--throw on some shades and a pair of comfy sandals and you'll be paparazzi ready!  This straw fedora, much like the trilby, has also been updated with a shorter brim and lower crown.  The grosgrain band adds a playful touch and a punch of color.

 Patterned 6 Panel 10

PL Patterned 6 Panel Driver 10 (shown right in Brown)

Tonal patterns are great for spring.  This brown plaid driver has enough texture and pattern to make it interesting, but not overbearing.  This driving cap (or ivy cap) is very versatile--the neutral color and classic silhouette make it must have item to add to your collection.

Remember, these are SNEAK PEAKS, but all of the hats shown today will be arriving in stores and online soon...very soon!  Check back often to find out when you can get your hands on these fabulous fashion hats.  Be sure to leave us your comments and ideas for future styles on the Lids Blog, Facebook or Twitter.

Superbowl = Super bets

While listening to sports talk radio this morning, one of the topics of conversation was, ofSuperbowl Hat course, the Superbowl.  However, rather than focusing on the question of who would win, the focus was on the prop bets for the Superbowl.  While most non-football fans can appreciate the Superbowl and surrounding activities (parties/performances/commercials/etc.), prop bets can add a little excitement to the Superbowl for even the most lackadaisical sports fan.
