Whalers Hat - Remember the Whale

Growing up in Connecticut during the 90s, I was a huge Hartford Whalers fan.  Unfortunately for Whaler fans, our favorite hockey team moved south to North Carolina and became the Carolina Hurricanes in 1997.  Besides watching some old Kevin Smith movies or popping in NHL '94 on SNES, remembering the Whale has been a tough go over the past ten plus years since there wasn't much officially released Whaler apparel from the NHL.

But this past summer, Connecticut's trademark on the Whalers expired and the NHL has started to expand the selection.  Whalers jerseys are even making their return in video game land as an alternate uniform on the NHL 2K10. 

Lids recently added some new Hartford Whalers hats, so there are more styles to buy.  My personal favorite Whaler hat is this 59Fifty fitted dogear hat from New Era.  It's great for those cold New England winters.  I also like this classic easy fitted Franchise Whalers baseball cap when it's not so frigid.

Jay-Z Performs at Yankees World Series Ceremony

We tweeted yesterday about Jay-Z's song "Empire State of Mind" and wondered how many times it had been played.  Well...chalk up another tally to that count.  Jay-Z performed the song live at the New York Yankees World Series ceremony today.

We thought it was pretty sweet and wanted to share...one question though, what was so important that kept Alicia Keys from being there?

Fresh Goods Friday: New Era Hats

This month's Fresh Goods Friday is bit of a twist on the "typical" Fresh Goods Friday hat.  The MLB Trapper is from New Era's premium line, New Era EK. 

Although New Era is known for their classic 59Fifty silhouette, this hat's superb style is showcased in the details.  Lush faux fur lines the front flip-up and dogear flaps, while New Era premium EK lining can be found on the inside of the hat.  A raised, embroidered team logo on the front flip-up and the MLB logoman on the back allow you to rep your team in style.  Two metal New Era Flags on the leftwear side finish the look and showcase true New Era authenticity.

New Kangol Hats

Sneak Peak: New Era Fresh Goods Friday

It's November and the start of a new month which can only mean one thing...a new Fresh Goods Friday release is just around the corner.  And while it may be around the corner for most people, we've got a special sneak peak for all of our Lids Blog readers.  Hey, it's nice to know people -- we take care of our VIP Blog customers!

Without further ado...here's your first look at the November Fresh Goods Friday release, the MLB Trapper.  Not only is this the sickest winter look, but it's super warm too.  Whether you're wearing it for style or warmth (or both), this cap is sure to trap some hotties.   Even Jay-Z rocked a similar style in his music video Empire State of Mind (snapshot below).  And, of course, if it's good enough for the guy who "made the Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee can," it's good enough for me.

The MLB Trapper is a solid black New Era trapper hat that originated from New Era's EK premium headwear line.  The cap features faux fur on the dogear flaps and on the flip-up front.  The New Era cap has a solid black, raised embroidery team logo on the front panel, MLB logoman on the back, and two metal New Era flags on the left-wear side.  This is a limited edition hat and will only be available at select stores in the following teams: New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, Chicago White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Sneak Peak: New NCAA Hats

Major League Gaming Hats Coming Soon

Lids Blog Readers--Have you ever heard of the only digital sports league in America? Well for those of you who haven't it's Major League Gaming or MLG.

Major League Gaming, founded in 2002, is a North American professional video gaming league.  Not only does MLG host video game battles online for thousands of gamers, but the MLG Pro Circuit features a multi-city, live competition tour for video game enthusiasts throughout the United States and Canada.  MLG has even had tournaments broadcast on national television, ESPN.com and other prominent broadband websites.

Wear Your Cap to School Day - October 23

As this week comes to an end, we ask that you keep kids fighting cancer in your thoughts.  Thousands of children across the country will support this worthy cause as they participate in the nation-wide Wear Your Cap to School Day event.  This year's Wear Your Cap to School Day is being held this coming Friday, October 23rd.  The fund raising event is sponsored annually by Caps for Kids, an international non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds for children battling cancer.  The goal of Caps for Kids is to give children a much needed boost in pride, confidence and strength by providing kids with celebrity autographed hats while they battle cancer and deal with the affects of chemotherapy.
